Not A Royal Wedding

The bride called her husband an indispensable existence and their marriage was necessary choice to protect their mind. The groom insisted on his life as only once and his right to be with his loved one. Her father wanted his daughter’s marriage to be celebrated by the people. The people were not sure whether the family was happy as a whole. Is this the traditional Japanese social system that makes no one happy?

Mako Komuro, as known as Princess Mako during her life in one of the royal family Akishino, held on Tuesday a press conference with her husband Kei Komuro, right after submitting marriage report to local government. It was something different from ordinary Q&A session, because Mako was afraid of her mental uneasiness brought by some questions not based on truth. So, the event was actually one-sided speech to the reporters.

Mako emphasized that the Kei’s decision of studying abroad five years ago had not been his original idea, but a result of her request to establish an overseas basis of their life, which might cause people’s belief that Mako had been reluctant to maintain her royal life in Japan. While Mako denied Kei’s indifference to her mentality in his decision of going abroad, she did not explain why they refused official royal wedding ceremony. She only reiterated her thanks to their close supporters.

Kei tried to persuade the public that he had made his best to solve the problem between his mother and her ex-fiancĂ© over money. According to Kei, his mother had mental illness and she could not meet her ex-fiancĂ© due to medical doctor’s prohibition. As a result, money scandal left unsolved.

The fact that Kei’s family was not rich caused skepticism on their marriage. Japan Magazine Publishers Association made a case in their question that Kei might have taken advantage of his marriage with royal family in his admission to Fordham University by accepting special treatment from the school. Mako resisted answering that question, arguing it as giving the people wrong image based on twisted truth. That was main reason why she refused live Q&A session.

Constitution of Japan guarantees the people freedom of marriage, insisting the marriage would be made based only on mutual agreement of both sexes. But the thing is that royal family is not fully regarded as one of “the people.” To assure the royal family ordinary human rights, it may require amendment of Imperial Household Law, to which conservative group would strongly oppose.

Another worry includes whether the couple can get up with their new life in New York, the place of business craziness. Some people suppose that Japanese government will make clandestine support for them to maintain royal dignity.
